Our Pakistani singers were used to be something so popular during the early 20’s. I remember watching new videos of them every other day and also getting obsessed with them. If you are a 90’s kid you will remember them watching on PTV. They still exist , they still make music. But maybe its us who cannot acknowledge them now or maybe they just are stuck between coke studio and the OSTs. Here are some of those singers I loved to not only listen to but also watch their music videos. I miss them <3
Who does not know the song Purani Jeans ? It was the group song of every gang. Apart from that Ali Haider had made some pretty amazing music throughout years. His Zalim Nazroun Se , Chaandni Raaten and Dildaar were among my most favorite ones. He left the music for almost three years and then came back. I would love to listen to him again like before.
This pashto singer became a massive hit after his song Jhoola. Not only the song was touching , the music video was also something that could move your heart 🙂 The other two songs I can remember myself singing on repeat was Tap Tap and Channa.
This long hair slicked back pop singer has also given some awesome songs to us in early 20’s. Like Mehndi , Yehi Tou Hai Apna Pan, Dosti and some of the punjabi ones. Though I could not understand the punjabi ones back then but I still used to enjoy them. Jawad Ahmed’s Bin Tere and Samjhawan also got featured in two major Bollywood Movies. The last time we heard him was in Coke Studio.
He was among the heart throbs of many girls. His passionate singing and unique voice could make you fall in love with him instantly. Shehzad Roy’s hit albums were Teri Soorat and Buri Baat Hai. I still do not understand where he disappeared even after so much success.
If you haven’t listened to Dil Ki Lagi (a tribute to Nazia Hassan) by Hum khuwaja you should search for it right now. She is absolutely mesmerizing. Although I tried to search for other songs by her but could not find much specifics. Hope she comes back to us with her sweet voice soon.
Faakhir Mehmood started his career with a band named Awaz. After some conflicts the band split and the members became solo singers. A national song from him Tere Bina Dil Na Lagay was such a massive hit that kids even now perform on this song every Independence day. In 2011 Fakhir’s Dilruba and Kabhi Kbahi Piyar Main topped the charts and became the biggest hits of that time. Like many of the others , we saw him in Coke Studio this year performing Dilruba Na Razi with Zeb Bangash.
These were just some of those long lost artists. Who were your favorites ? Comment below so we can discover them again 🙂
